Fall Beauty

Fall is quickly approaching and I couldn’t be happier. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not looking forward to nine solid months of rain, but I do love wearing sweaters, smelling fires (the hearth kind, not the forest kind), and I LOVE how the makeup colors change in the fall! Wine stained lips, dark polish, amber and deep purple colored shadows… Since I am perpetually a pale Northwest girl, I don’t do well with the bronzed summer looks and love seeing the deep colors that look perfect on my (really, really) pale skin. I have taken time to look over the fall trends seen in the magazine, ads, and runway shows and will give you guys the lowdown on what is hip, hot, and happening this fall.

Berry Stains: There is nothing that says fall like deep stained lips. This is a great trend for someone who is not ready for a full dark lip to pair with those warm fall sweaters. Simply dab on a berry colored lipstick with your ring finger and add a little clear gloss.

Orange Lipstick: Okay, you are thinking “What?” I honestly never thought I could wear orange as I tend to picture that crazy dayglo orange Avon lipstick my mom had in the 70s, but today’s oranges are beautiful. Look for one with a slight pink tone and one that is more of a light wash of color, not fully opaque. Oranges look gorgeous with purple shadows, too (another fall trend).

Green Shadow: I am loving this trend, ever since I learned how to wear green with my green eyes. Think lots of black liner to define the difference between “eye” green and “shadow” green. Even if you are not ready for a whole green eye look, try a neutral eyeshadow with a deep green below your lower lashes. This is a great way to try any bold color for the first time.

Black Liner: Black liner is making its way back this season. On the runway the liner is very thick and nothing you’d ever where out of a club…not that I do that anymore! Ha! But a bit of black along the waterline will smudge down to your lash line giving you the look without looking like you partied all night (or were so busy with the kids you forgot to remove it from the day before).

Metal shadows: I have loved metallic shadows for years, but only recently have they gotten visibility. They are actually the perfect daytime eye when worn as a wash with brown mascara and neutral lips. I wore some silver shadow the other day and got a great compliment from my husband.

I think what I like best about the fall trends this year is that while they are expected for this time of year; they are done in a fresh way and more wearable to those of us not walking a cat walk.
